  • Yeah I remember watching Toonami after school in the late 90’s (I sound old lol) and it did introduce me to anime. Shows like Pokemon, Digimon, DBZ, Gundam Wing, Rurouni Kenshin, and Outlaw Star; and later Naruto and One Piece. It was a huge part of my childhood and i was so pissed when they cancelled it. That April fool’s joke wasn’t funny to me, literally thought Toonami was back for real…but no… And when they did bring it back for Saturday nights I hoped the old shows would be back on. Before i go into this, let me say first that I did enjoy some of the new anime like SAO, Deadman Wonderland, Space Dandy, and Kill la Kill. Now there were some shows they had on that didn’t work for me; and with some shows that are already popular like Naruto, they start from the very beginning and then restart after 10-20 episodes in. It’s much easier for me to watch it online (subbed and dubbed) than watch it on TV. As for the late times, I’m a night owl anyway so staying up past 1am doesn’t bother me. Has Toonami gotten boring? I’d say it has a little bit. It’s still fun to see some new shows but it would be awesome if they had 1 night of the month dedicated to the old Toonami, where they would show all the anime from back then.

    • I also wish that they would show the old shows. I do enjoy seeing the new ones but I also miss when Toonami aired earlier because I would love to spend an entire day watching anime on Cartoon Network.

  • Personally, I do agree that sometimes Toonami can have those moments where it gets boring but it’s not too bad. Like mannywolf12 mentioned above, I did like when Toonami brought Space Dandy, Sword Art Online, Blue Exorcist and others. They were fresh new (to some extent) anime for us and Toonami tries their best to appeal to all the fans. Just like The Otaku Judge said, anime on TV helps people get into it more than the ones that already watch it online.

I also believe that Toonami is trying to stay “modern”. They are showing these anime mentioned above because they know that they trending and it is popular online.
