So one of the main things that I’ve been doing since January is trying to read more books. But not just any books but books that are inspiring to me and help to teach me something.
So that means I’ve been reading a lot of biographies and self-improvement books. Why have I been doing this you ask. Well mainly because I want to try and keep improving myself. I know that I have a lot to work on when it come to my anxiety and just trying to be overall happier when it comes to my life and where I’m at on my journey. I’ve also been using books to help with creativity and it’s been so far pretty amazing.
To read these books I mostly use audiobooks since I usually have a long commute and it makes it convenient. I usually use this app called scribed which is a paid monthly subscribe of about $9.99 but it’s definitely worth it. You can find it the App Store if you have an iPhone so I recommend trying it out.
So let me know what books you guys have been reading or what kind of books you like to read. Comment down below your recommendations and let me know if you would like me in my next blog post to let y’all know what books I’ve read so far.

Of course many of y’all know that I love to read and I just finished a book that I wanted to do a review for y’all for. The name of the book is called The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas.
The Hate U Give is about a girl by the name of Starr Carter who witnessed the death of her friend Khalil at the hands of a white police officer. It then shows the hate, stress, and sadness her, her family, and her community go through after this horrible event. It also touches on other events similar to this and the toll it can take on not just the person but everyone involved.
I completely fell in love with this book from the first page due to the fact that I could in some ways connect with Starr. This was due to the fact that she felt that she loved too different lives and had to change the way that she acted. While Starr lived in the “hood” she went to a school where she was only one of a few black kids. So while at school she didn’t want to act “too black” so that the stereotypes about black people wouldn’t be brought up.
While at home though she talked all the slang she wanted. She understood how the streets worked, but she also had a lot to learn. Once the death of her friend happened she definitely learned a lot and one thing she learned was bravery.
She learned what it took to be brave and what it takes to use your voice to make a change. The story tells of her testimony about what happened the night of the murder and the after affects in her community.
From her having to hide the fact that she was the witness to her having to try to protect her family from the secrets she finds out a long the way. I loved how it spoke about the snitching rule that seems to apply to minority neighborhoods when things happen and how this can definitely hinder the prosecution of someone. Plus it also shows what happens to those that do.
After reading this story I had the intense feeling of anger but also being very proud of who I am and what a voice can really do. So I definitely recommend everyone to read this book and also to watch the movie starring Amandla Stenberg which comes out in theatres October 5th.

So I decided to read this book by the name of Bloomability mostly because I remembered reading this book as a kid. I really enjoyed reading this book and to see if it was as good as I remembered I decided to read it again.
Bloomability is about a girl by the name of Dominica Santalina Doone nicknamed Dinnie who moves around with her family a lot. After her sister Stella has a baby she ends up leaving with her Uncle Max and Aunt Sandy on an opportunity. This opportunity is for her to go to a private school in Switzerland where she makes tons of new friends.
While in Switzerland she meets Gurthie and Lila and they become friends along with many others.
Bloomability tells the story about a young girl that starts off wanting to keep things the same and also her old and new life separate. But as the year continues in Switzerland she starts to see both these worlds come together and also grows as a person.
After reading this book I realized that I loved this book just as much as I did as a kid. The only thing that I wanted more of was I wanted to see more of Dinnie growing. We got small glimpses of it at different times but I just wish there was more of her explaining her feelings. Also I of course would have wanted a sequel to this book.
Overall though I enjoyed this story and I think that many of you will too. You can purchase the book iBooks and I’m also sure that you can purchase it on Amazon as well. So check out this book and if you haven’t comment down below and let me know what you thought of it.
As many of you know I decided to reread the Harry Potter series and I finished the 2nd book some time back but I forgot to write the review.
But Harry Potter and the Chamber Of Secrets welcomes back the main character Harry where a new threat is happening at Hogwarts. A house elf by the name of Dobby tries to stop him from returning to school but that does not work.
Once back at school some of Harry’s schoolmates start to become petrified one by one as something evil lurks the halls. No one knows who or what is behind it but will they find out what’s happening before something even more terrible happens?
In this book you also get a few new characters such as the house elf Dobby, Gilderoy Lockhart, & Lucias Malfoy. These new characters bring some depth to the book and this also makes this book just a bit darker compared to the first one.
You also learn something new about Harry that will deeply impact his life at Hogwarts and like always there is always fun and havoc along the way. So be sure to check out this 2nd Harry Potter book if you haven’t already. I did enjoy this book even though it’s not my favorite in the series.
One reason being that it just seems pretty slowly paced throughout the book and then speeds up all of a sudden at the end. But it was still enjoyable to read.
I also recommend the illustrated edition since the pictures are really amazing. Also it makes reading the book that much more fun!
But what did you think of this book of you’ve read it? Do you plan to read it if you haven’t already. Comment down below and let me know.
