As I’m sure many of you saw my post yesterday I’m trying to use Instagram for only 30 mins each day. Well thankfully yesterday I was pretty successful. I actually didn’t go over my 30 min limit by the time I went to bed at around 10 pm. I also noticed quite a few positives.
I was definitely able to get a lot more things done. I didn’t realize how much time I spent on Instagram until I couldn’t spend anytime on it. When I got home from work I was able to work out, do some laundry, do research for a video idea, and also read a physical book as opposed to an e book. Quite a bit was done since I didn’t spend mindless minutes checking Instagram or getting stuck in the black hole that is stalking people’s pages.
But I did noticed some definite downsides. While I wasn’t using Instagram as much I noticed that the time I spent on my phone though was going up. Since I couldn’t use the entertainment of Instagram I was finding other forms of entertainment on my device. I was using Facebook a lot more (surprisingly), Twitter (which is awesome), and also watching more youtube videos. Usually each day my usage is about 8 hours on my phone. Well yesterday I went up to 10 which was mainly because of youtube.
So it seems my mind is substituting Instagram for different apps to occupy my time. But I have noticed that I’m picking up my phone less and less which is a good thing. So how to counteract the new issues of using other entertaining apps. Well I’m not going to put a limit on them yet but I am going to use today (Thursday) to only use my phone to read my ebook while at work. Plus I’ve been meaning to finish reading it anyway.
So let’s see what happens today and for those of you out there that are trying to see if you can do this I think you can. Trust me!
